Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island

Over at the Autumn Moon blog, Bill Tiller spilled the beans on an all-new game series called the Ghost Pirates of Vooju. The game, seemingly designed to take advantage of the current piracy boom – Tiller freely admits that a pirate-themed game “would be less risky than some of the other unusual ideas we had proposed, and would be easier to market” – is interestingly slated for release before the already publicized sequel to A Vampyre Story that we just reported on a mere few weeks ago. The estimated release date for Ghost Pirates is early 2010, while A Bat’s Tale will follow some six months later.

As far as the game’s register, ‘The Biller’ (as we affectionally call him here at The Slowdown) elaborates that he wishes to see the game enter a slightly more dramatic space not unlike “…Full Throttle or the movie The Incredibles.”

What do you make of this? Personally, I’m nothing but delighted that Tiller – who practically has the rights to computer gaming piracy anyway, having almost singlehandedly crafted the look to the beautiful Curse of Monkey Island – and indeed, in another post, Tiller outlines how he also feels “…people really liked the art I did on Curse of Monkey Island and wanted to see some more of it.”

Styles make fights, so why not games? Adventure-Treff have some hot scans and The Pumpkin Post have posted a lowdown of the game’s characters – that’s about it for now.

A Vampyre Story 2 Announced

Holy Chiroptera, Batman! A Vampyre Story 2 was officially announced yesterday by Autumn Moon Entertainment, with the subtitle “A Bat’s Tale”. Unsurprisingly, players now control the leading lady’s bat-friend Froderick instead.

The game’s writing team now includes “two ex-LucasArts game designers, Larry Ahren [sic] and Jesse Clark1)http://www.avampyrestory2.com/info.php; Ahern was last seen working on Insecticide (our review here) and Clark’s previous game seems to have been Outlaws back in 1997.

No release date has been announced.

Wallace & Gromit Demo

Telltale Games is letting us know the Wallace & Gromit Grand Adventures demo is now (exclusively, at the time of writing) available at Yahoo and FilePlanet. After an admittedly brief play-through, as the short demo is only really designed to acquaint new players with the generic mechanics of the adventure game genre, I still found myself surprised enough!

At the Fountain of Youth

If we were to gauge general goodwill and public appreciation with freeware indie game projects, one of the candidates for the top spot would have to be Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth. The well-liked and respected team have surprisingly managed to duck the guns of the ruthless LucasArts legal team and managed to release a succesful demo of considerable length some years ago, to illustrate the breadth and quality of their project.

What separates the project from its most immediate fan game peers is the impeccable taste applied to the artwork of the game, combined with the developers’ pursuit to maintain a closeness to their source material (The team hopes to tap the original actor that played Indy, Doug Lee, for a fully voiced demo) all the while offering an all-new scenario and setting.

The FOY Cast
The FOY Cast

Hopefully this is not too bawdy of me to reveal that the team does post exclusive sneak peek material in the game’s forums. One of the more recent posts includes a fantastic example of the various characters that appear in the game. The all-new character art maintains a lively, organic quality that was almost missing from The Fate of Atlantis.

Can you recognize any of the real-life “cast” counterparts?
